A white Christmas is coming to Auckland this year thanks to the selection of celebrations and events on offer at Snowplanet this holiday season.
Based in Silverdale, the indoor snow resort features a 200-metre slope, and real snow in a -5 degrees Celsius environment. Open 365 days a year, the centre makes it possible for Kiwis to enjoy the snow on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
To celebrate the holiday season, Snowplanet will hold a series of events throughout December including a Christmas Market Day on December 1st, offering market stalls, a bouncy castle, a spit roast, helicopter rides, skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing. Santa himself will feature and return on weekends up until Christmas, offering photo opportunities and special gifts for children.
The slopes and restaurant are also open for a special Christmas Day celebration with skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing activities. On the day, visitors can enjoy a three-course buffet, a visit from Santa and half-price ski passes.
For those wanting to keep the kids entertained over the break, the centre offers a Christmas holiday programme for children aged between 5-14 years. The three-day programme includes snowboarding or skiing lessons, an awards lunch with a group Santa photo, and any rental equipment required.
School holiday programme manager Rachel Munn says the event is already booking up fast.
Our school holiday programmes are always a hit with both the kids and their parents. Children get the opportunity to learn how to ski or snowboard in a safe, friendly environment, and their parents know theyre fully supervised and having an awesome time.
Thanks to its newly opened function centre, Snowplanet is also available for corporate events. Christmas function packages include skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing, and a Christmas buffet or three-course Christmas feast or groups can choose to join in the shared Christmas party on December 15th, for a Christmas Buffet, a glass of mulled wine, dancing, and other snow activities.
Function centre manager Heather Reid says the adventure aspect of Snowplanet makes it a fun option for corporate events and team-building activities.
With activities like snow tubing, snow soccer, snow sumo, and mixology parties, its a great way for colleagues or clients to get to know each other a little better, while having fun and a lot of laughs.
