A snowboarder was killed in an avalanche at Alpental on Sunday, the same day three skiers were killed in an avalanche at Stevens Pass.
The Alpental slide happened around 11:30 a.m. while a 41-year-old man was snowboarding in the out-of-bounds area, the King County Sheriff’s Office said. The man was headed down a chute when the avalanche was triggered and swept him 500 feet off a cliff.
The man’s friends called the ski patrol, who found the man partially covered in snow, the Sheriff’s Office said. Rescuers were unable to revive the man.
It isn’t illegal to ski or snowboard in the area the man was in, but officials said it is considered dangerous.
