BOULDER, Colo., Dec. 5, 2011 — /PRNewswire/ — Zeal Optics, Boulder, CO, announced that it has entered a three-year agreement as an Official Supplier of U.S. Snowboarding and U.S. Freeskiing, global brands of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), through 2014.
Zeal Optics, the company that created the world’s first ski goggles with built-in GPS systems, will be an Official Supplier to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, while partnering to provide an on-hill event experience at the Slopestyle and Superpipe competitions for both the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix and Revolution Tour.
“This is such an important partnership,” says Joe Prebich, director of marketing at Zeal Optics. “The Grand Prix Tour truly has been the place where the best athletes in the world come to prove themselves. Whether qualifying for the Olympics or just making a name for themselves, the USSA has provided a platform for pushing the sport forward and we want to support that type of progress.”
“Zeal Optics will be a great partner addition to our Grand Prix and Revolution Tour programs,” said the USSA’s Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer, Andrew Judelson. “As an industry leader, Zeal is an innovator, much like the athletes in these events. And the company is well aligned with our own values and ideals.”
The USSA’s Grand Prix and Revolution Tour circuits are among the primary event series for the new Olympic events of halfpipe skiing plus slopestyle skiing and snowboarding. The new events will debut at the 2014 Olympics, with the Grand Prix circuit being a prime component for Olympic selection.
This season, Zeal will be the exclusive goggles and sunglasses featured at the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mountain, CO (December 7-10, 2011) and Mammoth Mountain, CA (March 1-4, 2012).
“We’ve got the most advanced goggles in the business, so it only makes sense to align with the best events in the sports of snowboarding and freeskiing through USSA,” added Prebich. “The game is totally different than it was before. All the athletes are amazing. So any small advantage, be it in your training or in your equipment, makes a difference. With our new Z3 GPS Goggle, we can illustrate another advantage to how technology can be more than just a cool element of your gear, it can define your performance.”
As an Official Supplier to U.S. Snowboarding and U.S. Freeskiing, Zeal Optics will continue to push the levels of performance integration into athletic competition. Not only will Zeal Optics be present with its entire goggle line at these events, but also with a totally redesigned sunglass collection. Built with bio-based Z-Resin™, the 2012 line blends active elements with lifestyle designs creating a unique style that fits perfectly in an active lifestyle.
Zeal’s GPS goggles line is armed with technology that provides real-time, in-goggle access to performance statistics including speed, altitude, temperature, and time during your run down the slopes. Zeal’s newest models, including the Z3 GPS Goggles, also capture jump data for analysis. The GPS line comes with downloadable software that allows users to transfer all data from their goggles to their PC and Mac computers. Users can see their fastest and slowest speeds, review individual runs, and see vertical distance covered. The software allows users to manage and “playback” runs overlaid on 3-D Google Earth and share information on Facebook and Twitter. Nearly all Zeal goggles feature a large, polarized, in-molded anti-fog lens set into flexible frames that remain malleable in cold temperatures. Several models include photochromic lenses that not only cut 99.9 percent of glare from the sun and slopes to reduce eye fatigue, but also automatically adjust to varying light levels, going from a light yellow tint in low light, to a dark rose/brown tint in brighter light.
Zeal’s new sunglasses line features 18 colorful styles made from Z Resin™, the company’s proprietary, bio-based material made from the oil of castor beans. All the glasses use the optical market’s newest lens technology that is exclusive to Zeal. Hyperion™ Lens Technology produces polarized, hybrid, injection-molded de-centered lenses. They have the lightness of polycarbonate materials combined with the optical clarity of glass, resulting in wide, crystal clear views with an abbe value of 38. They meet all ANSI, EU, and AU impact-resistance standards. Most styles in the line are available with prescription lenses. Unlike other manufacturers who apply film or coatings to sunglass lenses to improve eye protection, Hyperion Lenses embed new highly specialized SPF film and formulated resins to significantly reduce the sun’s glare by 99 percent, cut 100 percent of UVA, UVB and UVC rays and eliminate 95 percent of High Energy Visible wavelengths that can lead to serious eye diseases.
Zeal Goes Mobile
At each event, Zeal’s mobile eyewear experience will allow visitors to see what’s special about the company’s goggles and sunglasses. “When you see the goggles in action, that is what makes you a believer,” added Prebich, “Zeal offers a whole different way to look at how you ride and how you share your stories and experiences from the slopes with friends. That’s why we have our new event vehicle at every stop – to create a vibe and experience that actually feels fun, informative and unique.”
Sunglasses and goggles from Zeal are available from opticians, optical and sunglass specialty retail, and sportswear stores nationwide starting in mid-November. For more information on Zeal Optics, visit zealoptics.com or follow the company on Facebook and Twitter.
